Computers I Recommend For Rendering (Not Apple)

I generally do not recommend Apple laptops for 3D design and rendering. Generally speaking I recommend a windows gaming computer.
The main reason I recommend using windows computers with an NVIDIA graphics card is that D5 Render software only work windows. Chief Architect ray tracing is also better on windows.
If you are committed to Mac, you can still great renderings using Chief Architect and Enscape software. I just think D5 Render is better than Enscape.
My favorite brand for laptops is Lenovo and Maingear for desktops. Here is what I’m currently using myself as well my current top picks for laptops based on budget.
What I currently am using
Lenovo Legion 7i 2024 version (not being sold anymore). My laptop is only used as a backup and when I need to travel. I do almost all my work on my desktop computer.
Maingear North with NVIDIA RTX4090. I love the look of the North cases. I use a desktop computer for most of my daily work as desktop computers are much faster than laptops for producing renderings.
Laptops I Recommend
Budget Range - Lenovo LOQ
Mid Range - Lenovo Legion 5i and 7i
Just do a quick search on Best Buy or B&H Photo for ‘Lenovo Legion’ and you’ll see what they have available.
High End - Lenovo Legion Pro 7i
The newest Lenovo Legion Pro 7i will offer awesome performance for but for a premium price. It also will have an nice OLED screen.
As of 04-14-25, Best Buy’s pricing is currently lower than B&H by several hundred dollars, with the only difference being less hard drive storage.
